About Me

Jessica lives in Berkeley, CA with her husband and two young children. She has an MFA in Nonfiction Writing from Columbia University, where she wrote her graduate thesis about the antiwar movement’s response to the U.S. invasion of Iraq, the 2004 presidential election, and what it means to be a patriot and a liberal in the post-9/11 world.

After her first child was born in 2007, however, she retreated from politics and wrote very little, her focus having turned inward and toward the demands of mothering.

Now, as she emerges from this fallow period, she is grappling with climate change, both as a mother afraid for her children’s future on this planet and, more generally, as a human being who would very much like life on Earth to persist in some recognizable, sustainable way.

  1. Go Jess! Thank you for creating this site so we can delight in your writing. As Grandpa Jack said to us the other day: “When you find something out, tell all the world!”

  2. Good for you, Jess! I’ve never been on a blog before, but look forward to reading your posts ( if I can figure out how to do that!)…Jo
